Product Details
Turmeric is one of those plants that reveals its full character only when you encounter it fresh. The moment you snap a finger, that deep orange flesh and sharp, camphor-edged aroma tell you something a powder in a packet simply cannot.
At Vaanavil Farm & Food Forest, turmeric grows the way it always should — in the shade of taller trees, in living soil fed by mulch, compost, and the slow work of time. Our farm in Vikramasingapuram, nestled in the foothills of the Western Ghats, has been under continuous permaculture practice for years. No synthetic fertilisers, no pesticides, no shortcuts.
What you receive is harvested to order — whole rhizomes with their skin on, uncured, exactly as they come out of the ground. This is the form your grandmother's kitchen understood: grated into gravies, pounded into chutneys, sliced into rice kanji, or simply juiced with a pinch of black pepper for your morning ritual.
Fresh turmeric has a higher moisture content and a more volatile curcumin profile than dried powder — which means the flavour is brighter, slightly bitter, and more aromatic. It also means it won't last indefinitely. Store it in a breathable cloth bag or the crisper drawer of your fridge, and use it within two to three weeks.
This is a seasonal, limited-availability product. When the harvest is done, it's done — until the next cycle.
From our soil to your kitchen. Nothing in between.
